About The Committee
The Economic Development Committee is an integral part of the Deanwood Citizens Association (DCA). The Economic Development Committee focuses on the sustainable development of the neighborhood, fostering agreements with new and existing businesses, and ensuring that growth aligns with the community's values and needs.
What We Focus On
Sustainable Development
Promote economic growth that balances environmental, social, and economic sustainability.
Encourage businesses that support the long-term well-being of the community.
Advocate for business practices that support local economic sustainability.
Business Agreements
Facilitate agreements with new businesses to ensure they align with the community's goals and values.
Facilitate communication and agreements with the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 7C (ANC7C), DC Department of Buildings (DOB), DC Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA), and relevant agencies to ensure alignment with community objectives.
Support local enterprises and initiatives that benefit the Deanwood neighborhood.
Zoning and Land Use
Review all Board of Zoning Adjustment (BZA) variance petitions seeking grant relief from zoning regulations.
Make recommendations to agreements and contracts based on thorough analysis.
Approve and reject special exceptions for certain land uses and hear appeals of actions taken by the Zoning Administrator at the Department of Buildings (DOB).
Community Advocacy
Engage with residents to gather input and feedback on development projects.
Ensure that community voices are heard and considered in economic development decisions.

Membership in the Economic Development Committee is open to all members of the Deanwood Citizens Association who are passionate about the neighborhood's development and economic growth. We welcome individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills, particularly those with experience or interest in urban planning, business development, or community advocacy. By joining our committee, members have the opportunity to directly influence the development projects and business activities that shape the future of Deanwood, ensuring that growth is both inclusive and sustainable.

Meetings
We meet once a month – the third Thursday of each month; except on holidays or when the committee has voted not to hold a monthly meeting. These meetings we may discuss:
Review new and existing BZA and CBA cases
Discuss existing projects
Share updates
Plan future initiatives
Meetings may sometimes include special guest from DC agencies to keep members informed about the latest news and updates related to economic development topics and issues.
