About The Committee
The Historic Preservation Committee is an essential part of the Deanwood Citizens Association (DCA), dedicated to organizing the community in support of the historic designation for Deanwood. Our mission is to memorialize the rich history and vibrant culture of Deanwood, its residents, and significant events that have shaped our community. By preserving our heritage, we aim to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Deanwood's unique legacy for future generations.
What We Focus On
Historic Designation
Advocate for the recognition and support of Deanwood’s historic designation to protect its historical significance.
Collaborate with local and national preservation organizations to secure official historic designation for Deanwood.
Cultural Preservation
Conduct research to uncover and preserve Deanwood's history and cultural heritage.
Identify and commemorate significant historical sites, figures, and events in Deanwood.
Document and celebrate the stories, traditions, and contributions of Deanwood residents.
Explore opportunities for public art installations, murals, and other creative projects that celebrate the community's culture and identity.
Educational Outreach
Develop educational content, such as articles, exhibitions, and presentations, to share Deanwood’s history.
Partner with schools, museums, and other organizations to incorporate Deanwood’s history into their curricula and exhibits.
Community Engagement
Involve residents in preservation efforts through events, workshops, and educational activities.
Engage with residents to collect stories, artifacts, and other historical materials.
Foster community pride and a shared sense of identity by celebrating Deanwood’s history.
